Third Day of School

Quote - August 31, 7:15 AM:

Kat: Liam, I need you to make sure Isabella stays at the table and eats her breakfast. I'm going to finish getting ready.

[three seconds later, Liam comes screaming into our bedroom]

Kat: Liam! What are you doing? I asked you to look after Isabella!

Liam: She's crazy! She's chasing me!

Kat: Isabella, go eat your breakfast. Liam, stay with her.

[Liam and Isabella start walking back to kitchen. Isabella starts acting crazy again.]

Liam: Isabella! Finish your breakfast! Tina! Eat your food!

***Note: If you have not seen Napoleon Dynamite, you will not get this joke. Sorry.

Updates:

Liam's class is learning about one of their three rules each day. Yesterday was respect. If they "caught" someone in the class doing something nice for another kid, they go to the two big jars in the room and put one marble from the full jar into the empty jar. The goal is to fill the empty jar by the end of the day. Someone "caught" him helping a friend draw something yesterday and picking up for someone else today. He said that if all the marbles have been moved to the one that was empty, they will have done "100 percent", which is very important to him!

Maddie reports that she has a best friend (already), Dani. Dani's mom is the assistant in Isabella's room and she is a darling little girl. Maddie helped take care of Isabella in early care this morning and she and Dani walked Isabella to her class room. Maddie has her first full day tomorrow. She is in the 3-6 year old classroom until 11:30A, then goes to the kindergarten enrichment classroom for lunch until 3:30. There are 10 kindergarteners and she has the kindergarten enrichment teachers for her morning class, too.

Isabella has cried every day when I dropped her off, but literally stops crying when the door closes and I'm gone. Teachers say she's doing really well and having fun. Apparently she only cries when I'm around. Super. She has become full potty trained and has not had one accident since starting school on Monday. Ahhh...peer pressure. My plan to phase myself out is nearly complete...

Bittersweet Symphony

Maddie (August 30th, 8:30 pm): Mom, I'm really tired. I'm just going to close my eyes and pretend we're still in Ohio.

First Day of School - 2005

Johnny: "How was your first day of school, Liam?"
Liam: "It was GREAT!"
Johnny: "What did you do?"
Liam: "I did maps. Lots of maps."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maddie (on her turn telling about her day): "The teacher yelled at me because I carried the blocks like this (shows her way with her hands) instead of like this (shows correct way with her hands)."
She goes on to explain that she thought her way worked better because they wouldn't drop her way. She also clarifies that the teacher didn't "yell" at her, she just showed her the "preferred" way to do it.
Maddie: "It's not fair that the teachers get to be in charge and we have to do things the way they say."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Isabella didn't really want to go this morning, but got right into things and was seen through the window working dilligently on an activity. She did cry for Maddie at one point. She also got to play late in the morning on the playground with Maddie and cried when they had to return to their own classrooms. She slept for two hours this afternoon.

Isabella: "Ummm...I played outside, I came in and had pretzels and water for snack and I played inside."
Johnny: "Are your teachers nice?"
Isabella: "Yep. They gave me a bandaid."

They're all ready for bed early tonight. So are we.

All our love.
